Swimming and Diving to Meet Kansas, Harvard this Weekend

LAWRENCE, Kan. - The University of Houston Swimming and Diving team continues its 2004 season this weekend when it faces Harvard and host Kansas in a two-day, simultaneous dual meet on Friday and Saturday at Robinson Natatorium.
Head-to-head team scores will be compiled at the end of competition on Saturday.
On Friday, all three teams will square off in the 200-yard medley relay, 1,650-yard freestyle, 200-yard freestyle, 100-yard backstroke, 100-yard breaststroke, 200-yard butterfly, 50-yard freestyle, 1-meter diving, 200-yard individual medley and the 400-yard freestyle relay.
The Cougars come into the meet after finishing second at their own Cougar Invitational on Nov. 19-21 at the Campus Recreation & Wellness Center.
Senior Kristin Bay and junior Azul Almazan swept the Conference USA Swimmer and Diver of the Week awards, respectively, with their performances n the Cougars' last outing.
Bay won the 100-yard backstroke event with the 11th-fastest time in school history and became only the sixth swimmer in school history to break the 24-second mark in the 50-yard freestyle.
The Tyler, Texas, native also posted the seventh-fastest time in school history in the 100-yard backstroke with a split time and was a member of the Cougars' 400-yard medley relay team which posted the eighth-fastest time in school history in that event.
Almazan won the platform at the Texas A&M Invitational with 430.55 points to finish nearly 15 points ahead of her closest competitor. Earlier in the meet, she posted 487.50 points on the 3-meter springboard to finish second in the preliminaries.
Meanwhile, sophomore Szintia Szanto continues to rank among the Conference USA leaders in several events. To date, the Budapest, Hungary, native's times rank among the Top Five league leaders in the 200-yard individual medley, 400-yard individual medley, 100-yard breaststroke, 100-yard butterfly, 200-yard breaststroke and 200-yard butterfly
Saturday's schedule features the 400-yard medley relay, 400-yard individual medley, 100-yard freestyle, 200-yard backstroke, 200-yard breaststroke, 3-meter diving, 500-yard freestyle, 100-yard butterfly and 200-yard freestyle relay.
This weekend's meet will be the Cougars' last action in 2004. UH won't swim again until Jan. 14 in a tri-meet against North Texas and SMU in Denton, Texas.
