Golf Finishes Sixth at Del Walker Intercollegiate

LONG BEACH, Calif. - The University of Houston golf team ended its 2004 fall season Friday with a sixth-place finish during the Del Walker Intercollegiate at Virginia Country Club.
The Cougars fired a team score of 295 during Friday's final 18 holes on the par-71, 6,584-yard course for a total of 880, 18 strokes behind team champion Lamar. It was the fourth Top 10 team finish for the Cougars in five fall tournaments.
Individually, sophomore Ricky Romano continued his consistent play with a sixth-place finish after shooting 71 on Friday. It was the fifth consecutive tournament that Romano finished among the Cougars' Top Two individual leaders and his fourth Top 10 finish during the fall season.
Other Cougars in action were senior Jordan Hasbrouck (223, t-32nd), Pablo Acuna (225, t-37th), Zach Mowbray (225, t-37th) and Jeremy Reed (226, t-45th), who competed in his first tournament as a Cougar after transferring from Florida A&M.
Denver's Barrett Jarosch won medalist honors after shooting a 6-under-par 65 in the final round to finish one stroke ahead of Texas-San Antonio's Nick Olivarri.
Host Long Beach State (866), UC Irvine (866), UC Santa Barbara (878), New Mexico State (880), San Jose State (884), Texas-San Antonio (884) and Arizona (898) rounded out the Top 10 team leaders.
This was the Cougars' final fall tournament of the 2004 season. UH won't return to competitive action again it opens the 2005 spring season at the Louisiana Classics in Lafayette, La., on March 7-8.
