With the Conference USA schedule underway, the Houston (2-12, 1-1) volleyball team heads to North Carolina for showdowns with East Carolina (8-9, 2-0) and Charlotte (14-5, 1-1) Oct. 8-9, respectively.
The Cougars are coming off a mixed weekend that included a tough 3-2 loss to Tulane on Saturday and a 3-1 victory over Southern Miss on Friday.
Houston begins the weekend in Greenville to take on the Pirates whom managed to rip off two straight victories on the road in their conference openers, downing UAB 3-0 and USF 3-2.
The meeting between the two schools marks the fourth time they have met with the Cougars owning the all-time record 3-0, including last season's three-game sweep in Houston.
The Pirates have five players with more than 100 kills and three players over 170. ECU is led by sophomore middle blocker Jaime Bevan, who has turned in 182 kills this year, and averages 2.89 kills per-game.
On Saturday, Oct. 9, the Cougars square off in Charlotte with the 49ers of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
Houston has won eight out of the nine matches between the two programs, including last season's 3-0 win over the 49ers at home.
In their opening C-USA matches, the 49ers came out with a 3-0 win over UAB and then fell 3-2 to USF in a five-game battle.
Charlotte carries a heavy hitting team with four girls recording more than 100 kills on the year including the two team leaders, junior middle blocker Lisa Newell and junior outside hitter Abbey Szlanfucht who are both over the 200-kill mark.
Szlanfuncht leads Charlotte with 243 kills and a team high 221 digs, while Newell has turned in 222 kills and has a team high 70 blocks on the season.
Houston and ECU begin at 6:00 p.m. (CDT) in Greenville on Friday, Oct. 8 and then face the 49ers in Charlotte on Saturday, Oct. 9 at 6:00 p.m. (CDT).
