Pakhalina Wins First Place at Super Final Grand Prix

MEXICO - Former University of Houston diver Yulia Pakhalina, teaming with Vera Ilynia, captured first place in 3-meter synchronized diving during the Super Final Grand Prix in Mexico on June 14-15.
Pakhalina, who recently capped her UH career by sweeping the NCAA individual national championships on both the 1-meter and 3-meter springboards, teamed with Ilynia to score 299.49 points in that event.
The duo finished nearly 13 points ahead of second place finisher Paola Espinosa and Laura Sanchez of Mexico.
The meet featured the top eight divers in the world.
Pakhalina and Ilynia return to action on July 13-20 when they compete at the World Championships in Barcelona, Spain.
