ARDMORE, Okla. - The University of Houston golf team wraps up its 2003 regular season this weekend when it competes at The Maxwell in Ardmore, Okla.
UH joins a stellar field on the 6,442-yard, par-70 course at Dornick Hills Country Club, including Arkansas, Colorado, Louisiana-Lafayette, North Florida, North Texas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma State, Penn State, SMU, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Tulsa and Washington.
The 54-hole tournament will consist of 36 holes on Saturday and 18 holes on Sunday.
The Cougars received some disappointing news earlier this week when they learned they did not receive an at-large bid to the NCAA Regionals. However, senior Brett Callas was one of six individuals invited to compete at the NCAA Central Regional in Manhattan, Kan.
This season, Callas is second on the team with a 73. scoring average and became one of only 11 players in school history to shoot a 65 or better during the final round of the ASU Thunderbird/Savane Invitational on April 11-13 in Scottsdale, Ariz.
A year ago, Callas captured medallist honors at The Maxwell after a 9-under-par 207. The Huffman, Texas, native helped his own cause by shooting 68-67 during the final two rounds of the tournament.
In addition, he helped lead the Cougars to a second-place finish with a 54-hole team score of 857.
Senior John Wine, who leads the Cougars with a 73.5 scoring average will also close out his collegiate career at The Maxwell and be joined by teammates Daniel Angenscheidt and freshmen Zach Mowbray and Kevin Newman.
