HOUSTON - For the second consecutive week, University of Houston sophomore Azul Almazan was honored as the Conference USA Diver of the Week.
It was the third time that Almazan collected the league's weekly award during her career and the 14th time that a Cougar diver has earned the accolade.
In a tri-meet against Texas and Northern Arizona on Oct. 17, Almazan finished first on the 3-meter springboard and placed third in the 1-meter competition. She collected 281.93 points on the 3-meter board to finish more than 12 points ahead of her closest competition.
With that performance, she won for the third time in four diving events this season and has posted back-to-back titles on the 3-meter board.
Almazan and her Cougar teammates will take a break from the competitive waters before returning to action on Oct. 31. That will be the start of a busy weekend for UH, which meets Conference USA rival Louisville and Kentucky at 3 p.m., Oct. 31. From there, the team heads to Cincinnati, Ohio, to meet league rivals Louisville and Cincinnati in their second tri-meet in as many days at 10 a.m., Nov. 1.
