HOUSTON - For the second time in 14 days, University of Houston diver Yulia Pakhalina was honored Tuesday as the league's Diver of the Week.
She captured first place in the 3-meter diving event at the Tennessee Diving Invitational last weekend to earn the honor for the seventh time in her illustrious career. The Penza, Russia, native collected 332.85 points to finish ahead of 13 competitors from UH, Tennessee, Ohio State and Miami.
The win also marked her 23rd consecutive win in this event during her collegiate career.
In addition, Pakhalina finished second in the 1-meter event with 323.30 points, less than six points behind Katie Beth Bryant of Miami. While she saw her 10-event winning streak dating back to last season snapped, Pakhalina has still won 46 of the 48 collegiate diving events in which she has competed.
A year ago, Pakhalina earned the award five times during the C-USA regular season.
East Carolina's Diane Parker was recognized as the league's Swimmer of the Week.
The entire Cougar swimming and diving program returns to the pool Saturday, as it plays host to Louisiana-Monroe in an 11:30 p.m. NCAA dual meet at the UH Natatorium. It will be the Cougars' third home meet over a 15-day span.
