Pakhalina Wins Silver Medal At Goodwill Games

Representing her native Russia, University of Houston sophomore Yulia Pakhalina and her teammate, UH volunteer assistant coach Vera Ilynia, won the Silver Medal in women's three-meter synchronized diving at the 2001 Goodwill Games in Brisbane, Australia. The Cougar tandem scored 317.34 points in the event to finish second behind China.
Pakhalina was also fifth in the individual three-meter spring board while Ilynia was fourth. Ilynia was fourth on one-meter while Pakhalina was 12th in the world. SHe will be back on campus this week and competing for the Cougars in UH's season-opening meet later this month.
