Volleyball Sees Six-Match Winning Streak Snapped at USF

TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Houston volleyball team saw its season-best six-match winning streak come to an end Sunday with a 3-0 loss at Conference USA rival South Florida.
The Cougars, who lost only their second match in the month of October, dropped to 11-9 overall and 8-3 in league play. In addition, the Bulls posted their third straight victory over the Cougars in the all-time series.
Jennifer Wittenburg led the Cougars with 19 kills and seven digs.
In game one, the Bulls set the tone early and never looked back. After UH captured the first three points, USF went on a 13-2 run and never led by fewer than seven points during the rest of the game.
The Cougars fell behind early again in game two but pulled to within two points on five different occasions late in the game. However, USF took advantage of UH service error and attack error to score the final two points of the game and take a 2-0 lead in the match.
USF used a 4-2 run midway through the third and final game to for a 22-16 lead and then closed out the game and the match with a 8-5 run.
Michelle Collier led four USF players in double digits with 15 kills with Jolene Patton chipping in with 13 kills. Ale Domingos led all players with 13 digs.
The Cougars hit the road again for a pair of C-USA matches next weekend to open the month of November. The two-match road swing starts Friday with a 7 p.m. match at Southern Miss in Hattiesburg, Miss., and concludes at 7 p.m. Saturday when UH faces Tulane for the second time this season in New Orleans, La.
The two matches will be the final regular-season, road contests of the year for the Cougars.
