Wittenburg Named to Volleyball All-Conference First Team

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - University of Houston senior outside hitter Jennifer Wittenburg has been named First Team All-Conference USA on a vote of the league's head volleyball coaches it was announced at the 2000 Healthy Choice Championship Tournament this week in Charlotte. Cougar seniors Michelle Frazier and Bobbi Stewart were named to the C-USA Second Team.
Wittenburg, a Houston native and standout from Cy Falls High School, has recorded over 445 kills this season despite missing almost a month with a foot injury. She is ranked second in the nation with 6.36 kills per game and seventh in the country with 4.41 defensive digs per game.
Wittenburg was joined on the all-league first team by Cincinnati's Rachel Beran, Trish Ladusaw, Bonita Wise and Stephanie Meinig, DePaul's Kara Jakusz and Stephanie Bishop, Louisville's Stacey Mercer, Colleen Hunter of Saint Louis, South Florida's Rachelle Paul and Michelle Collier as well as Tulane's Kim Sentmore. Collier was named the Player of the Year after leading the Bulls to the regular season title.
The second team consists of Charlotte's Ozlem Ozkan, Cincinnati's Shauntel Miller, DePaul's Christa Dirr, Louisville's Kelly McClain, Lesley Drury, Emily Roberson and Anastasia Zaitseva, Marquette's Mehgan Devine, South Florida's Melanie Mueller and Tulane's Erin Dobyanski.
Houston (19-8 over all and 11-5 in C-USA) is the No. 4 seed of the tournament and has a bye from opening-round action on Thursday. The Cougars will meet the winner of the DePaul-UAB match at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, November 17.
