UH Volleyball Team Sweeps UAB 3-0

HOUSTON, TX. (Oct. 29) -- The University of Houston volleyball team won its second-consecutive Conference USA match with a three-games to none sweep league rival UAB Sunday afternoon in Hofheinz Pavilion. With a 15-4, 15-6, 16-14 win the Cougars improved to 17-5 overall and 10-2 in C-USA action.
Houston was paced by senior outside hitter Bobbi Stewart, who led all players with 20 kills and a season-high three service aces. The sophomore tandem of Jane Anne Karasek and Leslie Lasiter meanwhile combined for 12 kills, 10 defensive digs and a composite .417 hitting percentage. After coasting through the first two games, the Cougars rallied from a 14-11 deficit in game three. The win marked UH's tenth 3-0 sweep of an opponent this season.
UAB remained winless in C-USA play, falling to 0-12 in conference and 5-19 overall. The Blazers were led by Martina Shields' 10 kills, 7 defensive digs and three blocks.
The Cougars will next face crosstown rival Rice at home in Hofheinz Pavilion on Wednesday, November 1. First serve with the Owls will be at 7:30 p.m.
