Andy Ferrara joined the Houston Track and Field and Cross Country family on Sept. 20, 2022 as the Interim Cross Country Coach, bringing over 50 years of coaching experience – including over 12 years with the USA Track and Field teams.
A native New Yorker, Ferrara coached at the 2008, '12 and '16 Olympic Games with the United States as well as at seven Outdoor World Championships with USATF. Ferrara also coaches at five Indoor World Championships and at a handful of World Relays.
Coming out of retirement to coach the distance team, Ferrara most recently spent 18 seasons at Kingwood HS as an assistant coach. Prior to his stint at Kingwood, Ferrara was the head coach for the boys track and cross country teams at Eisenhower HS as well as the girls cross country head coach during that time.
Ferrara came to Texas after coaching at South Shore HS in Brooklyn, N.Y. and spent three seasons as an assistant coach at Klein HS before starting at Eisenhower.
A graduate of City College of New York, Ferrara was named the team MVP in 1967 and '68.
Ferrara was inducted into the City College of New York Hall of Fame in 2005. He was also a Class of 2010 Gulf Coast Scholastic Track and Field Coaches Association Hall of Fame inductee.
