Agents/Advisors
The University of Houston is committed to helping student-athletes informed decisions regarding careers in professional athletics while enforcing its policies, the laws of the State of Texas and the rules of the NCAA with regards to agents and advisors. The basic NCAA rules regarding agents are:
- Student-athletes (including their families and associates) may not agree either orally or in writing to be represented by an agent, either now or in the future, to market the student-athlete’s athletics ability or reputation
- Student-athletes (including their families and associates) may not accept cash, gifts, or anything of value from an agent or individuals working with or for an agent (“runners”)
- All agents must be registered with both the Texas Secretary of State and the UH Office of Athletics Compliance
- Registered agents must notify the Office of Athletics Compliance prior to initiating any communications (in-person, telephone, email, direct message) with a student-athlete, their family members or other representatives
- UH will host an Agent Day on campus, typically on a Saturday in July, during which student-athletes entering their final season of eligibility and agents can schedule in-person interviews
- Student-athletes and their family members and associates shall inform the Office of Athletics Compliance of any unsanctioned communication
- Agents who do not abide by the UH Agent Policy or Texas law may not contact student-athletes and may be reported to the governing body of the applicable professional sport and/or the Texas Secretary of State
