Women’s Golf Selected for NCAA Simpsonville Regional

Three-day, 54-hole postseason event begins May 11 at Louisville Golf Club
HOUSTON – For the 10th time in program history and for the fourth consecutive season, the University of Houston Women's Golf program has earned a bid to NCAA Regional play.
The Cougars were selected as the No. 5 seed for the NCAA Simpsonville Regional to be played at Louisville Golf Club in Kentucky on May 11-13. Houston will face No. 1 seed Arkansas, No. 2 Auburn, No. 3 Iowa State, No. 4 Mississippi, No. 6 Virginia Tech, No. 7 Kansas State, No. 8 Indiana, No. 9 Charleston, No. 10 Xavier, No. 11 WKU and No. 12 Murray State.
Eila Galitsky (South Carolina), Babara Car (Old Dominion), Maylis Lamoure (South Carolina), Maria Jose Barragan (BYU), Isabella Johnson (Middle Tennessee) and Sloand Biddle (Belmont) were selected to compete as individual qualifiers.
In addition to the NCAA Simpsonville Regional, schools will compete at University of Michigan Golf Course (Ann Arbor, Mich.); UNC Finley Golf Course (Chapel Hill, N.C.); Stanford Golf Course (Stanford, Calif.,); Seminole Legacy Golf Club (Tallahassee, Fla.) and Ridgewood Country Club (Waco, Texas).
The Top-Five teams from each NCAA Regional advance to play at the NCAA Championships, set for May 22-27 at Omni La Costa Resort and Spa in Carlsbad, Calif.
The Cougars learned their postseason destination while watching Golf Channel's coverage of the NCAA Selection Show inside Cougar Den in the Athletics/Alumni Center on the University of Houston campus.
ABOUT the HOUSTON COUGARS
Under the leadership of Carolyn Macow Leatherwood Head Coach Lydia Lasprilla, the 30th-ranked Cougars have stood among the nation's best throughout the 2026-27 season and will be looking for their 10th NCAA Regional appearance in program history, including each of the last four seasons.
In its most recent action, Houston opened the Big 12 Championship presented by Allstate with back-to-back sub-par rounds and earned a season-best second-place team finish with a three-day, 54-hole score of 865. Junior Maelynn Kim, senior Natalie Saint Germain and senior Moa Svedenskiöld finished among the Top-10 leaders to earn Big 12 Championship All-Tournament Team honors.
The Cougars have earned five Top-Five team showings in 2025-26, including three of the last four tournaments entering NCAA Regional play.
HOUSTON in NCAA REGIONALS HISTORY
As a team, Houston has competed in NCAA Regional play dating back to the 2015 season with team appearances in nine of the last 10 years. The Cougars have been represented in each of the last 10 NCAA Regionals with Annie Kim competing as an individual at the 2022 NCAA Franklin Regional in Tennessee.
A year ago, the Cougars competed as the No. 5 seed on the Scarlet Course at the NCAA Columbus Regional and tied finished fifth on May 5-7, 2025. Houston finished five strokes shy of finishing among the Top-Five team leaders and advancing to the NCAA Championship for the first time in school history.
Svedenskiöld posted three straight rounds or par or lower and advanced to the NCAA Championships for the first time in her career and finishing as the top individual not on a qualifying team with a score of 2-under 214. She joined All-Americans Karen Fredgaard (2021) and Leonie Harm (2018, 2016) as the only Cougars in school history to compete at the NCAA Championships.
