Men’s Golf Finishes Play in Cabo Collegiate Second Round

Chi Chun Chen, Hudson Weibel tied for 26th to lead Cougars at 143
LOS CABOS, Mexico & SUGAR LAND, Texas – University of Houston Men's Golf junior Chi Chun Chen posted a 2-under 69 to lead the Cougars during the Second Round of the Cabo Collegiate at Twin Dolphin Club on Monday afternoon.
Chen drained four birdies in his round and moved into a tie for 26th at 143.
As a team, Houston bettered its First-Round score by nine strokes on Monday and stood in 13th with a score of 587.
Senior Hudson Weibel and junior Chi Chun Chen were tied for 26th at 143 while senior Kevin An was tied for 68th at 152. Junior Grant Doggett and sophomore Hsuan-Yi Chen were tied for 72nd at 153.
#9 Arkansas held the second-day lead with a score of 551 to finish three strokes ahead of #11 Arkansas on Monday. #7 Arizona State (557), Rice (560), Mississippi (563), #18 Tennessee (564), #27 Arizona (569), #17 Georgia Tech (571), #36 Florida State (572) and #20 Stanford (573) rounded out the Top 10.
The tournament features 10 of the nation's Top-50 programs.
Oklahoma State's Preston Stout finished with a 63 in the Second Round and moved into the individual lead at 12-under 130. Ziqin Zhou (California), Arkansas teammates Gerardo Gomez and Erich Fortlage and Michael Mjaaseth (Arizona State) were tied for second at 136.
COLIN MONTGOMERIE INVITATIONAL
Junior Enrique fired sub-par rounds of 70-71 to tie for 13th during the first day of the Colin Montgomerie Invitational at Sweetwater Country Club on Monday.
The Guadalajara, Mexico, drained four birdies in the First Round with back-to-back efforts at Nos. 6-7 and again at No. 11-12 to finish the First Round with a 70 on the 6,689-yard, par-71 layout.
Karg added three more birdies and an eagle-3 on the par-5 third hole in the afternoon session to join four others at 1-under.
Senior Bryant Hiskey was tied for 34th at 147 while freshman Jayk Altic was tied for 42nd at 149.

The Cougars will face Rice, Abilene Christian, Arkansas, Eastern Michigan, HCU, Lamar, Nebraska, North Texas, Odessa College, Sam Houston, Tarleton State, ULM, UT Arlington, UT Rio Grande Valley and individuals from LSU.
From there, Houston will play host to the Valspar Collegiate Invitational at Floridian National Golf Club on March 23-24.
