Men’s Golf Sweeps Titles at Border Olympics

Cougars claim second team title; Senior Hudson Weibel wins third individual crown in 2025-26
LAREDO & VICTORIA , Texas – For the second time this season, the University of Houston Men's Golf program captured both the team and individual tournament titles, earning a sweep at the Border Olympics at Laredo Country Club on Tuesday afternoon.The Cougars fired their third straight team round par or lower for a score of 2-under 850 to finish two strokes ahead of Tarleton State and North Texas.
It was the team's second team title of the year after winning the Argent Financial Classic in the season opener at Squire Creek Country Club in Choudrant, La., on September 7-9, 2025.
Individually, senior Hudson Weibel posted his low round of the two-day, 54-hole event with a 67 in the Final Round on the 7,257-yard, par-71 course for a score of 8-under 205. He finished two strokes ahead of Wichita State's Jose Ramirez.
Starting off No. 1, Weibel drained three birdies on his first nine and added two more on his second nine
With Tuesday's win, Weibel earned his third individual championship of the 2025-26 season. The Dallas native won the first title of his collegiate career at the Argent Financial Classic and won on the second hole of a playoff to claim medalist honors at the Trinity Forest Invitational at Trinity Forest Golf Club in Dallas on October 6-8, 2025.
Weibel became the first Cougar to win 3+ tournament championships in season since Michael Perras won titles at the NCAA Franklin Regional, HBU Husky Intercollegiate and Northern Intercollegiate during the 2015-16 season.
Junior Chi Chun Chen joined Wiebel among the Top-10 leaders with a score of 4-under 212 and tied for eighth.Junior Grant Doggett lowered his score in the second straight round and posted a Final-Round 68 Tuesday to rise 14 places into a tie for 11th with a score of 213.
Senior Kevin An tied for 44th at 221, and sophomore Hsuan-Yi Chen tied for 65th at 228.
Playing as individuals, freshman Jayk Altic tied for 40th at 220 while senior Bryant Hiskey tied for 46th at 222. Junior Enrique Karg tied for 65th at 228.
CLAUD JACOBS INVITATIONAL
While the Cougars competed as a team in south Texas, senior Ruben Lindsay and freshman Jakub Janda teed off as individuals at the Claud Jacobs Invitational at Victoria Country Club in Victoria, Texas.
Senior Ruben Lindsay tied for 11th at 220 while freshman Jakub Janda tied for 24th at 225.
UP NEXT
Following Border Olympics and Claud Jacobs Invitational, the Cougars travel to Mexico to compete as a team at the Cabo Collegiate at Twin Dolphin Club in Cabo San Lucas on March 1-3.
Houston also will send individual competitors to compete at the Colin Montgomerie Invitational at Sweetwater Country Club in Sugar Land, Texas on March 2-3.
Houston returns home to play host to its own All-American Intercollegiate at Golf Club of Houston in Humble, Texas, on March 16-17.
The Cougars will face Rice, Abilene Christian, Arkansas, Eastern Michigan, HCU, Lamar, Nebraska, North Texas, Odessa College, Sam Houston, Tarleton State, ULM, UT Arlington, UT Rio Grande Valley and individuals from LSU.
