10/3/2026 3:44:00 PM | Football
Senior quarterback Conner Weigman rushes for three touchdowns, junior kicker Jonathan Dimas boots two field goals & senior defensive end Latreveon McCutchin sparks defense in second half
Â
With his TD total, Weigman set a personal best and became the first Cougar signal-caller with three touchdowns since Donovan Smith at Rice on Sept. 9, 2023.

Â
He became the first Cougar with three rushing scores since running back Parker Jenkins had three rushing scores against Sam Houston on Sept. 23, 2023
Â
After falling behind early, the Houston defense rebounded to stifle the Knights over the game's last 20 minutes.
Â
The Cougar defense held UCF to only 48 total yards in the fourth quarter, including -6 rushing yards. On the Knights' final five possessions starting late in the third quarter, Houston forced a critical interception, two three-and-out punts and a pair of turnover on downs.
Â
Wearing their alternate Houston Blue uniforms as well as customized Gridiron Galaxy helmets for the first time this season, the Cougars won their second straight game against the Knights
Â
However, things did not look good early as UCF scored on its opening possession and held a 17-0 lead late in the third quarter.
 Â
Weigman started the Houston rally, weaving his way through the UCF defense for a 19-yard touchdown scamper, with 3:38 remaining in the third quarter.
Â
On that seven-play, 75-yard scoring drive, the Cypress, Texas native completed four passes for 50 yards and rushed for 25 more yards to put the Cougars' first points on the scoreboard.
Â
As the Houston offense began to warm up, so too did the Cougar defense. On UCF's ensuing possession, the Cougars forced the Knights into a third-and-12.
Â
Senior JACK Latreveon McCutchin batted UCF quarterback Keyone Jenkins' pass attempt into the air and snared the loose ball before rumbling to the UCF 2.
Â
Two plays later, Weigman plunged into the end zone from one yard out to pull Houston to within 17-14 with 1:11 left.
Â
After forcing the Knights into another three-and-out on their next possession, the Cougars embarked on an 11-play, 62-yard drive that was capped by Weigman's 1-yard touchdown for a 21-17 lead with 10:15 left in the game. Houston would never trail the rest of the way.
Â
The Houston defense forced UCF into a three-and-out on the next possession, and the Cougars grabbed a 24-17 lead on Dimas' 40-yard field goal with 4:14 remaining.
Â
Following another three-and-out by the Cougar defense on UCF's next possession, Houston pushed its lead to double digits on Dimas' 46-yard field goal with just under two minutes left.
Â
Junior running back Re'Shaun Sanford II led the Cougars with 62 rushing yards on 18 carries while junior tight end Patrick Overmyer hauled in six catches for 76 yards.
Â
Jenkins threw for 253 yards on 23-of-35 passing with a touchdown and interception while wide receiver Josh Derry totaled seven catches for 101 yards and a touchdown to lead UCF.
Â
Saturday's win was the 50th for the Cougars in the history of TDECU Stadium and marked win No. 265 for Head Coach Willie Fritz, who is in his third season at Houston.
Â
UCF controlled much of the first half and took a 17-0 lead into the locker room at the break. The Knights took the opening kickoff and grabbed a 7-0 lead on Jenkins' 13-yard touchdown pass to Derry with 11:17 remaining in the opening period.
Â
UCF grabbed a 10-0 lead on kicker Will  Stone's 30-yard field goal late in the first half and extended its advantage to 17-0 on Jenkins' 5-yard touchdown run with 6:01 left in the third quarter.
Â
That set the stage for the late heroics from Weigman, McCutchin, Dimas and the Cougar defense.
