Long snapper named to semifinalist list of college football’s premier scholar-athlete award
HOUSTON – Houston Football's senior long snapper Jacob Garza was named to the National Football Foundation William V. Campbell Trophy semifinalist list, joining 78 FBS nominees.
As a dependable long snapper, Garza has helped ensure Houston has not allowed a blocked punt in two of the last three seasons and did not allow a blocked kick in 2024.
The long snapper is habitually first down the field on punt team and his presence by a returner forced a fumble that he recovered at BYU in 2024.
Garza has earned multiple academic awards over his career including CSC Academic All-District and four Academic All-Conference awards.
Off the field, Garza is an intern with the Houston Athletics Grounds Crew and has volunteered at multiple community service events including ProKick and at National Marrow Donor Program events.
