Senior earns spot on watch list for nation’s best pass catcher
HOUSTON – Houston Football tight end Tanner Koziol earned a spot on the 2025 Biletnikoff Award Preseason Watch List, the Tallahassee Quarterback Club Foundation announced Wednesday.
Â
Koziol joined the Cougars this summer following three years at Ball State where he was a breakout star for the Cardinals. Last season, he was a College Football Network Third-Team All-American and a HERO Sports First-Team Group of 5 All-American after ranking fourth in the country with 7.8 receptions per game and breaking Ball State's single-season and career records for receptions by a tight end. He caught 94 passes for 839 yards and eight touchdowns enroute to an 87.9 offensive grade by Pro Football Focus, the third highest grade by a tight-end last year.
Â
The Bloomingdale, Ill., native was the first tight end in Ball State history to eclipse both 80 receptions and 800 yards last year. He was one of three tight ends nationally to catch 8+ touchdown passes and one of five to surpass 800 receiving yards.
Â
In total, Koziol has caught 163 passes for 1,507 yards and 18 touchdowns. The three-time All-MAC selection (Second Team in 2022, 2024; Third Team in 2023) was a 2022 College Football News Third-Team Freshman All-American and a 2023 HERO Sports Preseason Third-Team All-American.
Â
Koziol is the latest Houston player to earn recognition from the Tallahassee Quarterback Club Foundation for the Biletnikoff Award. Wide receiver and 2023 NFL Draft third-round pick Tank Dell was a semifinalist for the award in 2022.
Â
The Biletnikoff Award annually recognizes the most outstanding college football receiver each season. Any player, regardless of position (wide receiver, tight end, slot back, and running back) who catches a pass is eligible for the award. As such, the Biletnikoff Award recognizes college football's outstanding receiver, not merely college football's outstanding wide receiver.
