Quarterback among 58 on watch list for nation’s top senior or upperclassman passers
HOUSTON – University of Houston quarterback Conner Weigman was selected for the 2025 Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award Watch List, the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Educational Foundation, Inc., announced Tuesday.
Â
Weigman, the ninth-best transfer quarterback in the 2025 class according to 247Sports, joined the Cougars following three seasons at Texas A&M. In 15 career games, he's posted a 219-for-365 (60 percent) mark with 2,694 yards and 19 touchdowns. He's also added 261 yards on the ground with two touchdowns.
Â
In his first collegiate start, he set the Aggies' true freshman record with 338 yards with a 28-for-44 line that included four touchdowns against #6 Auburn. Finishing the year with 896 passing yards, eight touchdowns and zero interceptions in five games, he was named an ESPN Freshman All-American in 2022.
Â
His success continued into his redshirt freshman season in 2023, where he claimed the team's starting quarterback role before being sidelined with a season-ending injury in the fourth game of the season. Overall, he completed the year with 82 completions on 119 attempts (69 percent) for 979 yards and eight touchdowns. Weigman's first career interception came six games into his collegiate career, before which he had tallied a 13-0 TD-INT ratio.
Â
Closing out his time with the Aggies in 2024, Weigman played in six games and amassed 819 yards and three touchdowns.
Â
The Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award annually recognizes the top senior or upperclassman quarterback set to graduate with their class. As the 2025 college football season unfolds, the watch list will be narrowed to semifinalists, finalists and one standout quarterback will take home the Golden Arm Award in December.
