Former Division I assistant coaches join the Cougar Soccer coaching staff
HOUSTON – University of Houston Soccer Head Coach Ben Williams announced the addition of Assistant Coach Brooke Bradley and Player Development Coordinator Howard Sturgeon for the 2025 season Wednesday.
ABOUT BROOKE BRADELY
Bradley joins the Houston Soccer staff as an assistant coach after spending the 2024 season at Miami (Fla.). Bradley worked heavily with a pair of goalkeepers that combined for four shutouts and 50 saves in 2024.
"We're thrilled to welcome Brooke to our coaching staff and welcome her back home to the Houston community," said Williams. "Her extensive experience as both a standout goalkeeper and a skilled coach, combined with her proven success developing elite keepers and competitive teams, will be invaluable to our program. Brooke's dedication to student-athlete growth on and off the field perfectly aligns with our vision, and we're excited to see the impact she'll have here at Houston."
Before joining the Hurricanes, the Houston native was an assistant coach at Florida Tech from 2021-23. She helped the Panthers to a 35-12-15 record in the Sunshine State Conference, winning three league titles with trips to the NCAA DII Elite Eight and Final Four.
Â
In 2023, the Panther goalkeepers allowed 0.78 goals per game as Ayana Ayoagi was tabbed as the league's Goalkeeper of the Year.
Â
Before landing in Florida, Bradley spent two seasons as a graduate assistant at Texas Women's, helping them to an 18-8-1 record.
Â
As a player at North Texas, Bradley accumulated a 17-6-5 mark with 127 saves and 10 shutouts in two seasons as the team captain. She led the Mean Green to three Conference USA regular season and three conference tournament titles.
Â
ABOUT HOWARD STURGEON
Sturgeon joins the Cougar staff as the Player Development Coordinator after two seasons as an assistant coach at HCU where the team made a run to the Southland Conference Tournament Semifinals.
Â
"We're very excited to welcome Howard to our coaching staff," said Williams. "He knows this community well, and his experience building strong, competitive and hardworking teams speaks volumes. Along with his genuine passion for developing student-athletes, Howard brings leadership and dedication that will be a tremendous asset to our program. We look forward to the positive impact he'll make."
Â
Prior to joining the Huskies, Sturgeon was named Interim Head Women's Soccer Coach at Briar Cliff University for the Spring 2023 season and served as an assistant coach for two seasons where he helped lead the Chargers to their first GPAC Tournament Championship in 2021, as well as an undefeated GPAC regular season in 2022, going 10-0-2.
Â
During Sturgeon's time at Briar Cliff, the program amassed a 28-6-5 record, made back-to-back appearances in the NAIA National Tournament and the team never dropped outside of the NAIA Coaches National Rankings.
Â
As a player, Sturgeon was an A.I.I. All-Conference selection in 2017 at Waldorf University where he was a part of the schools first A.I.I. Conference Championship and its first appearance in the NAIA National Tournament.
Â
The Cougars opened their fall practice slate on Tuesday with their exhibition match set for Friday, Aug. 8 at 6 p.m. against Rice at the Carl Lewis International Complex. Admission to the match is free.
