Women’s Golf Rises at NCAA Columbus Regional

Cougars move into eighth and four strokes behind Top-Five leaders; Svedenskiold tied for fourth at 143
COLUMBUS, Ohio – University of Houston Women's Golf junior Moa Svedenskiold fired even par or lower for the second straight day to lead the Cougars during the Second Round of the NCAA Columbus Regional on the Scarlet Course at Ohio State Golf Club on Tuesday afternoon.
Competing on the 6,319-yard, par-72 layout, Svedenskiold posted a 71 Tuesday and was tied with UNLV's Toa Yokoyama and Ohio State's Nellie Ong for fourth at 1-under 143.
Battling tough weather conditions throughout the round, the 26th-ranked Cougars finished with a score of 301 and rose two places in the team standings into eighth with a 36-hole total of 596, only four shots behind the Top-Five team leaders.
Steady rain fell throughout the round and combined with wind gusts up to 23 mph to create wind chill temperatures in the low 40s.
Starting off No. 10, Svedenskiold moved under par with a birdie on the par-5 12th hole but returned to even par with a bogey on the next hole.
The Halmstad, Sweden, native returned to red numbers with back-to-back birdies on Nos. 14-15 and drained her final birdie of the day at No. 7.

Junior Alexa Saldana posted a 74 for the second straight day and was tied for 21st at 148 while sophomore Maleynn Kim was tied for 30th at 150.
Junior Natalie Saint Germain was tied for 53rd at 155 while Hyeonji Kang was 66th at 80 after sitting out Monday's First Round.
#2 Arkansas held the second-day team lead at 580 to finish one stroke ahead of #39 UNLV. #23 Kansas and #14 and host #14 Ohio State were tied for fourth at 582 with #35 SMU in fifth at 592.
#10 LSU (593) and Kent State (593) completed the Top-Seven leaders with Xavier (599) and #47 Illinois (600) rounding out the Top 10.
Kansas' Lyla Louderbaugh held the individual lead at 5-under 139 to stand two strokes ahead of Kendall Todd (Arkansas) and Emily Odwin (SMU).
The tournament wraps up with the Final Round on Wednesday. The top five teams and top individual not on an advancing team at each NCAA Regional site advance to the NCAA Championships set for May 16-21 at Omni La Costa Resort and Spa in Carlsbad, Calif.

Kang begins the day for Houston off No. 1 at 7:55 a.m. (CDT) with Saint German (8:06 a.m. CDT), Kim (8:17 a.m. (CDT), Saldana (8:28 a.m. CDT) and Svedenskiold (8:39 a.m. (CDT) following.

NCAA REGIONALS HISTORY
With the NCAA Columbus Regional, Houston will be represented in 10 straight NCAA Regionals dating back to the 2015 season with team appearances in nine of the last 10 years.
A year ago, the Cougars competed as the No. 7 seed at the NCAA Auburn Regional and tied for sixth at Auburn University Club in Auburn, Ala., on May 6-8, 2024.
Svedenskiold, Saldana, senior Hyeonji Kang, Saint Germain and Kim return in 2025 from that postseason squad.
Two Cougar All-Americans have earned three berths into the NCAA Championships as individuals during the program's history.
Leonie Harm qualified for the 2018 and 2016 NCAA Championships while Karen Fredgaard earned the most recent invitation in 2021, tying for 28th for the highest individual finish at the nation's top collegiate event.
