Southland Conference Championship coach and All-MAC performer joins Houston staff
HOUSTON – All-MAC Second Team honoree and former Miami (OH) soccer standout, Izzie Vaccari, has joined the University of Houston Soccer program as an assistant coach, Head Coach Ben Williams recently announced.
"We are very excited to have Izzie on board with us at Houston," said Williams. "She is a big part of how our staff runs and the connections that we want to build with our student-athletes. She is someone who knows and exemplifies the qualities we want everyone in our program to have in order to bring success to Houston."
Vaccari rejoins Williams after spending the 2024 season at Stephen F. Austin where she led the goalkeepers to 13 shutouts which ranked seventh in the country. She helped guide the Ladyjacks to the Southland Conference regular season and tournament titles and a berth to the NCAA Tournament.
Â
"I am extremely grateful to Ben Williams and the entire Houston Athletics department for this amazing opportunity," said Vaccari. "I cannot wait to get to work with these incredible athletes, coaches and support staff to continue building off the success in previous years and continuing that into the future. I look forward to putting my all into Houston's family and community."
Â
The Dublin, Ohio, native was a standout goalkeeper at Miami (OH) from 2019-22. She sits second in career saves and owns the program record in shutouts on her way to earning All-MAC Second Team honors as a senior.
Â
In her final season with the Redhawks in 2022, Vaccari started all 20 matches while leading the team in minutes. She conceded just nine goals during conference play and 14 overall which ranked her third in the MAC for the least number of goals allowed. She recorded 10 shutouts that season, breaking her previous record of six set her junior year.
Â
During the 2021 season, Vaccari started all 18 games, recording a 1.17 goals against average with a 72.4 save percentage in 1,618 minutes of play. She finished the season with 55 saves, posting six shutouts and averaging two saves a game.
Â
In 2020, Vaccari played in all eight matches and finished the year with a 2.12 goals against average and 44 saves. During her sophomore season, she appeared in 17 for the Redhawks, recorded a 1.44 goals against average with an 82.6 save percentage (second in MAC), and allowed one goal or fewer in 11 of her 17 appearances.
