Junior fires 2-under 69 in First Round at Twin Dolphin Club; Second Round tees off Monday morning
CABO SAN LUCAS, BCS, Mexico & SUGAR LAND, Texas – University of Houston Men's Golf junior Hudson Weibel fired a 2-under 69 to lead the Cougars and tie for sixth following the First Round of the Cabo Collegiate at Twin Dolphin Club.
Starting off No. 11 on the 7,156-yard, par-71 course, Weibel quickly moved under par with birdies on each of his first two holes. The Dallas native added another birdie on the par-5 16th and drained back-to-back birdies on Nos. 4-5 to pace the Cougars.
As a team, Houston finished the First Round in 14th with a score of 304.
Senior Laurenz Schiergen was tied for 58th at 77 while junior Bryant Hiskey II was tied for 64th at 78. Senior Wolfgang Glawe was tied for 70th at 80 with sophomore Chi Chun Chen in 80th at 81.
Arizona State held the team lead with a score of 276 to finish five shots ahead of Oklahoma State. Arkansas (287), Stanford (288), Mississippi (288), Florida State (290), Tennessee (293), Rice (295), Texas Tech (295) and Arizona (295) rounded out the first day's Top 10.
Arizona State's Preston Summerhayes and Preston Stout of Oklahoma State stood atop the individual leaderboard with 67s. Arizona State teammates Michael Mjaaseth and Pongsapak Laopakee and Ethan Fang of Oklahoma State were tied for third at 68.
The Second Round of the Cabo Collegiate tees off Monday morning with the Final Round on Tuesday.
In addition to the Cabo Collegiate, four Cougars will compete as individuals at the Colin Montgomerie Invitational, hosted by Houston Christian at Sweetwater Country Club in Sugar Land, Texas. That tournament features 36 holes Monday with the Final Round beginning Tuesday.

Following the Cabo Collegiate, the Cougars return to Houston to play host to their All-American Intercollegiate at Golf Club of Houston in. Humble, Texas, on March 17-18.
From there, Houston hosts its final tournament of the season at the Valspar Collegiate Invitational, set for March 24-25 at Floridian National Golf Club in Palm City.
The Cougars then close their regular-season slate when they tee off at the Thunderbird Intercollegiate at Papago Golf Club in Tempe, Ariz., on April 11-12.
