Graduate earns first monthly honor of career after winning second tournament of fall season
HOUSTON – After winning the Trinity Forest Invitational and earning a pair of Top-25 finishes, University of Houston graduate Hudson Weibel was honored as the Big 12 Men's Golfer of the Month for October on Thursday afternoon. In two tournaments, the Dallas native fired six straight sub-par rounds and finished the month with a sparkling 69.00 scoring average.
Weibel opened the Trinity Forest Invitational with a 70 on Oct. 6 and proceeded to lower his score by three strokes with each successive round. He posted a career-best 64 in the Final Round, thanks to 10 birdies.
His Final-Round total tied as the fifth-lowest round in Houston Men's Golf history.
Finishing at 15-under 201 after 72 holes, Weibel defeated Rice's Lukas Boandl with a 40-foot birdie on the second hole of a playoff. It was his second tournament individual championship of the fall season and the second in which he won the title in a playoff.
Weibel opened the fall campaign by earning medalist honors at the Argent Financial Classic at Squire Country Club in Choudrant, La., on Sept. 7-9 after holing out for eagle from 123 yards on the second hole of a playoff against Louisiana's Malan Potgieter.
