Senior fires career-best 64 in Final Round, drains 40-foot birdie on second playoff hole for second championship of season

Weibel claimed his second individual title of the 2025-26 season. He opened the fall season with a score of 13-under 203 to win the championship and lead the Cougars to the team title at the Argent Financial Classic at Squire Creek Country Club in Choudrant, La., on Sept. 7-9.
He became the first Cougar to win multiple titles in the same season since All-American Santiago De La Fuente won the Border Olympics (Feb. 13-14, 2023) and the American Athletic Conference Championships crowns (April 21-23, 2023) during the 2022-23 season.
Weibel also became only the fifth Cougar under Director of Jonathan Dismuke to win multiple titles in a single season. He joined de la Fuente, Blair Hamilton, Michael Perras and Roman Robledo.
In addition to his tournament title, Weibel also recorded one of the best rounds in school history. Draining 10 birdies, he became the 13th Cougar to shoot 64 or lower in a round and equaled the Houston's low round of the season by teammate Chi Chun Chen in the Final Round at the Argent Financial Classic on Sept. 9.
His 64 tied with Chen, Austyn Reily, Matt Williams, Alexander Frances, Matt Scobie, James Ross, Andy Sanders and Ed Fiori for the fifth-lowest round in Houston history. It trailed only the 63s from Wolfgang Glawe, Michael Perras, Andy Sanders and Ray Barr.
Weibel's Final Round did not start out promising. Playing in his hometown, he bogeyed No. 1 and, after a pair of birdies, returned to even par with another bogey on the par-4 fourth hole.
However, those would be the last blemishes on his scorecard. He returned to red numbers with a birdie on the par-5 sixth hole and closed his first nine with back-to-back birdies.
After sinking his first birdie of the second nine at No. 10, Weibel birdied four of his next five holes, including three straight at Nos. 13-15 and then waited.
Playing in the last group, Rice's Lukas Boandl birdied No. 16 to tie Weibel and made par on the final two holes to force the playoff against Weibel.
The two golfers made par on the first playoff hole to set the stage of Weibel's heroics.
As a team, Houston posted a score of 282 in the Final Round and finished fifth with a three-day total of 19-under 845. It was the ninth straight sub-par team total in as many rounds to open the 2025 Fall campaign.
Junior Chi Chun Chen finished 24th at 213 while senior Kevin An tied for 25th at 214. Junior Grant Doggett finished 45th with a 54-hole score of 219 while freshman Jayk Altic – playing as an individual – tied for 67th at 225. Sophomore Hsuan Yi-Chen tied for 73rd at 226.
Rice and USC shared the team championship at 832 to finish one stroke ahead of South Alabama. Host SMU finished fourth at 839 with Baylor (854), Furman (857), North Texas (861), East Tennessee State (865) and UT Rio Grande Valley (867) completing the Top 10.
After Weibel and Boandl, USC's Jaden Dumdumaya and Louisiana's Malan Potgieter tied for third at 203 while SMU's William Sides finished fifth at 206.
