
Men’s Golf Finishes First Round at The Bryson Invitational

Sophomore Hsuan-Yi Chen with 1-under 71 to tie for 19th and lead Cougars
CHARLESTON, S.C. – University of Houston Men's Golf sophomore Hsuan-Chen posted a 1-under 71, thanks to six birdies, to lead the Cougars and tie for 19th following the First Round of The Bryson Invitational.
Playing on the 7,295-yard, par-72 Ralston Creek Course at Daniel Island Club, the Cougars finished with a team score of 290 and stood 11th in the standings.
Starting off No. 11, Chen struggled early and was at +3 through his first five holes. However, the Daxi, Taiwan, native rebounded with back-to-back birdies at Nos. 17-18 and drained four birdies in a five-hole stretch.
Senior Hudson Weibel was tied for 30th at 72 while junior Grant Doggett was tied for 41st at 73. Senior Kevin An was tied for 46th at 74 while junior Chi Chun Chen was tied for 60th at 75.
Vanderbilt held the team lead with a score of 278 to hold a two-shot advantage over Wake Forest and Kansas. Duke (281), Wisconsin (283), Cincinnati (285), Seton Hall (287), South Carolina (287), Liberty (288) and Charlotte (288) rounded out the Top 10.
Cincinnati's Ryan Ford stood atop the individual leaderboard with a 66 and held a two-shot lead over Chase Nevins (Vanderbilt), Tom Haberer (Wake Forest), Bryan Kim (Duke), Jakob Melin (Wake Forest), Spencer Turtz (Wisconsin), Miles Eubanks (Charleston), Arthur Carlier (Kansas), Daniel Boone (Charlotte) and Will Hennessee (Seton Hall).
The tournament continues with the Second Round on Tuesday morning and the Final Round teeing off Wednesday.

For Tuesday's Second Round , Houston will compete in groups with student-athletes from Liberty and TCU.
Chi Chun Chen begins the day off No. 11 at 7:30 a.m. (CDT), Tuesday, with An (7:40 am CDT), Doggett (7:50 a.m. CDT), Weibel (8 a.m. CDT) and Hsuan-Yi Chen (8:10 a.m. CDT) following.

Houston welcomes HCU, Illinois State, Lamar, Louisiana, New Mexico State, North Texas, Sam Houston, Tarleton State, Troy, UT Rio Grande Valley, Wichita State and Wright State to the tournament.
From there, the Cougars travel to Mexico to compete at the Cabo Collegiate at Twin Dolphin Club in Cabo San Lucas on March 1-3.
Houston returns home to play host to their own All-American Intercollegiate at Golf Club of Houston in Humble, Texas, on March 16-17. The Cougars will face Rice, Abilene Christian, Arkansas, Eastern Michigan, HCU, Lamar, Nebraska, North Texas, Odessa College, Sam Houston, Tarleton State, ULM, UT Arlington, UT Rio Grande Valley and individuals from LSU.
