
Men’s Golf Continues Play at The Bryson Invitational

Junior Chi Chun Chen overcomes slow start to shoot 30 on his second nine
CHARLESTON, S.C. – The University of Houston Men's Golf program stood in 14th with a team score of 581 following the Second Round of The Bryson Invitational on Tuesday afternoon.
Playing on the 7,295-yard, par-72 Ralston Creek Course at Daniel Island Club, junior Chi Chun Chen fired the Cougars' low round of the day with a 3-under 69 despite a slow start.
Starting off No. 11, Chen made double bogey at No. 12 and endured back-to-back bogeys at Nos. 14-15 to stand at 3-over through his first eight holes.
However, the Tainan, Taiwan, native erupted on his final 10 holes to rise 23 places in the individual standings. Chen drained birdie on the par-4 first hole and, following a pair of pars, drained three consecutive birdies.
After another par at No. 7, Chen closed his day with three straight birdies to move into a tie for 37th at even-par 144.
Senior Hudson Weibel joined Chen in red numbers with a 71, thanks to four birdies on Tuesday, and was tied for 24th at 143.
Sophomore Hsuan-Yi Chen was tied for 61st at 147 while senior Kevin An and junior Grant Doggett were tied for 69th at 149.
Vanderbilt continued to hold the team lead with a score of 558 to finish one shot ahead of Kansas. Duke stood in third at 561 with Wake Forest (564), South Carolina (565), Cincinnati (566), Wisconsin (567), TCU (568), Liberty (568) and Charlotte (570) rounding out the Top 10.
Cincinnati's Ryan Ford held the individual lead at 135 to hold a one-streak lead over Kansas' William King.
Bryan Kim (Duke), Chase Nevins (Vanderbilt), and Vijay Kuman (Wisconsin) were tied for third at 137 with Jack Beauchamp (TCU) and Zach Adams (South Carolina) tied for sixth at 138.
The tournament concludes with the Final Round teeing off Wednesday morning.

The Cougars will face Rice, Abilene Christian, Arkansas, Eastern Michigan, HCU, Lamar, Nebraska, North Texas, Odessa College, Sam Houston, Tarleton State, ULM, UT Arlington, UT Rio Grande Valley and individuals from LSU.
