Houston student-athletes honored by league following record-setting semester
HOUSTON – Forty-four University of Houston student-athletes from cross country, football, soccer, and volleyball have earned a place on the 2024 Fall Academic All-Big 12 Team, recognizing their excellence both in competition and in the classroom.
To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.20 GPA or higher either cumulative or over the two previous semesters and must have participated in 20% of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
Houston Soccer led the Cougars with 16 representatives followed by 13 Houston Football standouts. Nine Volleyball student-athletes were recognized by the Big 12 as were six cross-country representatives.
University of Houston Athletics achieved a historic milestone in academic performance during fall 2024, posting a record-breaking term GPA of 3.24, with 291 student-athletes earning a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
This achievement marked the fourth consecutive cumulative department-wide GPA of 3.0 or higher, setting a new standard for academic excellence. Seven sport programs matched or surpassed their previous term or cumulative GPA records, while 11 of 15 sports posted a term GPA above 3.0.
