Cougars claim 21 podiums in penultimate dual meet of the season
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Houston Swimming & Diving team fell in its dual meet to Miami, 194-104, on Friday at Whitten Center Pool. 
 
The Cougars earned 21 podiums finishes and won one event in their second meet of January.
 
Junior Virag Peter claimed the top spot with at time of 2:12.99 in the 200-yard breaststroke to headline the day for Houston. Senior Henrietta Fangli took second in the same event with a 2:14.58.
 
Houston's 200-yard medley relay team of freshman Lottie Cullen, Fangli, junior Noor El Gendy and junior Liya Goupil started the meet with a second place showing, posting a time of 1:40.57.
 
In distance events, freshman Mariana Cote placed second in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a new season-best time of 10:07.06 while sophomore Sydney Nethercutt and freshman Elizabeth Benoit went 2-3 in the 500-yard freestyles with times of 4:55.10 and 5:00.98, respectively.
 
Cullen placed second in the 100-yard backstroke (54.48) while fifth-year Danielle Titus took third in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:59.00.
 
The 200-yard freestyle relay team of freshman Sienna Bruner, Goupil, senior Mary Catherine Jurica and junior Jenna Kerkman finished second with a time of 1:34.60. Bruner also took third in the 200-yard freestyle (1:50.55) while Goupil earned a second-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle, touching the wall in 23.29.
 
In the diving events, sophomore Michelle McLeod earned podium finishes in both the 1-meter and 3-meter, finishing second (290.93) and third (307.50), respectively. Fifth-year Hedda Grelz placed second in the 3-meter (312.00) while fifth-year Emilia Waters took third in the 1-meter (279.83).
 
Sophomore Evelyn Entrekin placed second in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:00.48 with Fangli finishing just behind in third (1:00.66).
 
Senior Adelaide Meuter touched the wall in second in the 200-yard butterfly (1:59.49) while in the other butterfly event, the 100-yard butterfly, senior Abbie Alvarez led a 2-3 finish, taking second (54.95) with El Gendy placing third (54.98).
 
Junior Landry Hadder capped the day in individual events, placing third in the 400-yard individual medley after touching the wall in 4:22.90.
