Strombacha Wins Opening Match at ITA All-American Championships

CARY, N.C. – University of Houston Tennis fifth-year Santa Strombacha defeated UCF's Jantje Tilbuerger in the singles Round of 64 at the ITA All-American Championships at the Cary Tennis Park on Monday morning.

After a tight first set that needed a tiebreak, Strombacha closed out No. 111 Janteje Tilbuerger (UCF), 7-6(5), 6-4.

Strombacha's victory marked the first Cougar to win in the opening round of the qualifying bracket since Despoina Vogasari in 2015 when she defeated No. 63 Clementina Riobueno from Miami (Fla.), 6-4, 6-1.

UP NEXT
Strombacha advances to the Round of 32 to face No. 77 Valencia Xu of Stanford on Tuesday.
