SMU controlled play in the first set after trading points early. Remaining even after four serves, SMU rattled off a 7-0 run and never looked back, claiming victory in the first, 25-12.
Houston fought back in the second. A 6-1 run to start the frame put Houston ahead, and the Cougars maintained a 15-10 lead at the media timeout. Another tense set awaited in the fourth. Despite 12 ties, including as late at 22-22, a 3-0 Mustang run was enough to seal the match for SMU, clinching the set, 25-22.
