Men’s Golf Rises to Fourth at Big 12 Championships

Senior Santiago De La Fuente, junior Wolfgang Glawe tied for fifth at 4-under 212 to lead Cougars

Senior All-American Santiago De La Fuente posted his second straight sub-par round and was tied with Glawe for fifth overall with a 54-hole total of 4-under 212.
As a team, the Cougars posted their best score of the tournament to date at 3-under 285 and rose to fourth at 867 on the 7,434-yard course.
Starting off No. 1, Glawe enjoyed a bogey-free front nine with birdies at No. 5 and No. 9. Following three straight pars to open his back nine, the St. Leon-Rot, Germany, native drained back-to-back birdies at No. 13-14.
De La Fuente enjoyed a bogey-free day through the first 15 holes with birdies at No. 5 and No. 11. He and Glawe joined Texas' Brian Stark in the tie for fifth at 212.
Reily posted two birdies in the final four holes of his front nine and added two more birdies at No. 12 and No. 16 before enduring his lone bogey of the day at No. 17. The Pottsboro, Texas, native was tied for 15th at even-par 216.
Junior Jacob Borow was tied for 53rd at 227. Joining the Houston lineup for the first time at the Big 12 Championships, junior Laurenz Schiergen stood 68th with a 77.
Texas moved into the team lead with a score of 851 to stand 11 shots ahead of Oklahoma. Oklahoma State was in third at 863 with West Virginia (868), Baylor (871), BYU (872), Kansas State (875), Texas Tech (877) and Kansas (877) rounding out the Top 10.
Cincinnati's Ty Gingerich stood atop the individual leaderboard at 208 to finish two strokes ahead of Tommy Morrison (Texas) and Gustav Frimodt (TCU)
The three-day, 72-hole event concludes with the Final Round on Wednesday.

TEE TIMES
For Wednesday's Final Round, the Cougars will compete in groups with student-athletes from West Virginia and Baylor, beginning off No. 1 at 8:40 a.m.
Schiergen will begin the day for the Cougars at 8:40 a.m., with Borow (8:50 a.m.), Reily (9 a.m.), Glawe (9:10a.m.) and De la Fuente (9:20 a.m.) following.

CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIPS HISTORY
For the 59th time in school history, Houston competed in a Men's Golf conference championships event.
The 2024 Big 12 Championships marked the fifth different league in which the Cougars competed, joining American Athletic Conference (2014-23), Conference USA (1997-2013), Southwest Conference (1974-96) and the Missouri Valley Conference (1951-60). Houston competed as an independent from 1961 to 1973.
The Cougars have captured 21 team championships with 22 individual titles at conference championships during the program's history.
This season, De La Fuente is competing in his fourth conference championships for his third different league, joining American Athletic Conference (2023) and Great American Conference (2021-22 with Arkansas Tech). Reily and Borow competed in their third conference postseason events with Glawe making his second appearance with the Cougars.
Chen made his inaugural conference championships appearance this season.
UP NEXT
Following the Big 12 Championships, the Cougars will learn their postseason fate during the NCAA Selection Show. That show will air at 1 p.m., Wednesday, May 1, on Golf Channel.
NCAA Regional play is set for May 13-15 at one of six sites across the nation.
Those postseason venues include The University of Texas Golf Club (Austin, Texas; hosted by Texas); University Club (Baton Rouge, La., hosted by LSU); UNC Finley Golf Course (Chapel Hill, N.C.; hosted by North Carolina); The Farms Golf Club (Rancho Santa Fe., Calif.; hosted by San Diego); Stanford Golf Course (Stanford, Calif., hosted by Stanford) and Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex (West Lafayette, Ind; hosted by Purdue).
The top five teams and top individual not on a qualifying team at each NCAA Regional advance to the NCAA Championships set for Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, Calif., on May 24-29.
