
Borow Earns Medalist Honors at HCU Colin Montgomerie Invitational

Junior fires third straight round in 60s to collect first individual title of his career
SUGAR LAND, Texas & LOS CABOS, Mexico – University of Houston Men's Golf junior Jacob Borow posted a score in the 60s for the third straight round to lead the Cougars and captured the individual championship at the HCU Colin Montgomerie Invitational at Sweetwater Country Club on Tuesday afternoon.
Less than a day after shooting a career-low 65 in the Second Round, Borow drained five birdies to finish with a 69 Tuesday for a 54-hole total of 16-under 200. The Lake Jackson, Texas, native finished four shots ahead of runner-up Max Bengtsson of Tarleton.
Borow started the Final Round with a birdie off No. 16 and moved to 2-under with another birdie at No. 2. Enduring a bogey at No. 3, he rallied with back-to-back birdies at Nos. 5-6 and sank his final birdie of the tournament at No. 11 for the first individual title of his career.
Borow was one of four Cougar student-athletes to compete as individuals at the HCU Colin Montgomerie Invitational.
Junior Drew Murdock posted an even-par 72 on the 7,051-yard, par-72 course and tied for eighth at 209. Junior Laurenz Schiergen also finished with a 72 Tuesday and tied for 18th at 214 while fifth-year senior Nick Sutton tied for 40th at 219.

CABO COLLEGIATE
As a team, Houston posted a team score of 295 in Tuesday's Final Round at the Cabo Collegiate at Twin Dolphin Club and tied with Stanford for eighth with a three-day total of 863.
Senior Santiago De La Fuente posted the Cougars' low round of the day with a 70 and tied for 14th at 2-under 213.
Starting his day off No. 6, the Guadalajara, Mexico, native found trouble with back-to-back bogeys at Nos. 17-18 to stand at 1-over through 14 holes.
Fortunately, the 2024 Latin American Amateur champion rallied with two birdies over his final five holes to tie with two others.
Fifth-year senior Austyn Reily tied for 27th at 216 while freshman Chi Chun Chen tied for 35th at 218. Junior Wolfgang Glawe tied for 38th at 219 while freshman Grant Doggett tied for 70th at 230.
Arizona State captured the team championship at 833 to finish nine shots ahead of Texas Tech. Arkansas (850), Vanderbilt (853), Mississippi (857) Florida State (857) and Tennessee (860) rounded out the Top Seven team leaders with California (865) completing the Top 10.
Stanford's Michael Thorbjornsen earned medalist honors with a score of 203 to finish one shot ahead of Mississippi's Michael La Sasso. Arizona State's Preston Summerhays finished third at 205.

Following the Cabo Collegiate and the HCU Colin Montgomerie Invitational, Houston returns home to play host to the All-American Intercollegiate on March 18-19 at Golf Club of Houston in Humble, Texas.
From there, Houston will continue their hosting duties as they welcome an elite field to the Valspar Collegiate Invitational at Floridian National Golf Club in Palm City, Fla., on March 25-26.
