Houston senior paces program as Cougars take fifth from Golf Club of Houston
HUMBLE, Texas – University of Houston Men's Golf senior Santiago De La Fuente climbed eight spots up the leaderboard, firing a Final Round 67 to finish tied for third at 4-under, 212, among the 100-member field at the 54-hole All-American Intercollegiate from the Golf Club of Houston.
De La Fuente's 5-under, 67, on Tuesday matched Iowa's Ian Meyer (Final Round) and UNLV's tournament champion Yuki Moriyama (Second Round) for the lowest round at the event. The result helped the Cougars to a fifth-place result at 12-over, 876, among the 20-team field.
The result marked De La Fuente's third Top 5 result in five events this season. The Guadalajara, Mexico, native drained four birdies and an eagle during his Final Round. De La Fuente was joined in the Top 15 by redshirt junior Jacob Borow who continued his ascent with a 1-under, 71, on Tuesday, to finish tied for 14th at 2-over, 218. The Lake Jackson, Texas, product sunk three birdies during a four-hole stretch while vaulting eight spots up the leaderboard.
The Top 5 finisher was Houston's third on the season. The Cougars were second among six Big 12 Conference competitors in the field, trailing only Texas Tech, who captured the team title at 7-over, 871, thanks to four competitors finishing inside the Top 30.
Houston junior Wolfgang Glawe finished in 40th at 8-over, 224. He was followed by senior Austyn Reily (226) in 53rd. Junior Laurenz Schiergen (228) put together a strong final round, climbing 18 spots up the leaderboard to finish tied with sophomore teammate Bryant Hiskey II (228) thanks to a Final Round 73 to finish 65th.
Senior Nick Sutton (229) placed 72nd followed by freshman Grant Doggett (234) in 85th, sophomore Ruben Lindsay, competing individually, in 89th (235) and junior Drew Murdock (242) in 99th.

Houston will continue its hosting duties as it welcomes an elite field to the Valspar Collegiate Invitational at Floridian National Golf Club in Palm City, Fla., on March 25-26.
From there, the Cougars will head west to compete at the Thunderbird Intercollegiate at Papago Golf Club in Tempe, Ariz., on April 12-13. That will be the team's final regular-season event before heading to the Big 12 Championships.
