Senior All-American ties for 24th at 1-under 215; Austyn Reily ties for 11th at Papago Individual Event
WESTCHESTER Ill. & PHOENIX, Ariz. – The University of Houston Men's Golf program finished play at the Highlands Invitational on Tuesday afternoon, posting a two-day score of 5-under 859 at Chicago Highlands Club.
Senior All-American Santiago De La Fuente tied for 24th with a 54-hole score of 1-under 215 to lead the Cougars on the 7,490-yard course.
Sophomore Hudson Weibel tied for 30th at 217 while junior Wolfgang Glawe and sophomore Ruben Lindsay tied for 36th at 218. Junior Jacob Borow tied for 41st at 219.
Host Wake Forest and Missouri shared the team title with scores of 833, Virginia finished third at 834 while Duke (851) and Charleston (857) completed the Top Five. Rutgers (860), Indiana (866), Michigan (872), Penn State (873) and Wake Forest 'B' (873) rounded out the Top-10 leaders.
Wake Forest's Michael Brennan won medalist honors at 204 with Jack Lundin (Missouri), Bryan Lee (Virginia) and Zach Reuland (Charleston) tying for second.
PAPAGO INDIVIDUAL EVENT
In addition to the Highlands Invitational, four Cougars competed as individuals at the Papago Individual Event at Papago Golf Club.
Super senior Austyn Reily tied for 11th at 216 while junior Drew Murdock tied for 13th at 218. Making his collegiate debut, freshman Grant Doggett tied for 17th at 220 while junior Laurenz Schiergen tied for 30th at 231.
UP NEXT
Following the Highlands Invitational, Houston will face Sam Houston in a 36-hole match play event during the Robert Steele Cup at Golfcrest Country Club in Pearland, Texas, on Oct. 3. This is a recent addition to the Cougars' fall schedule.
From there, the Cougars close their fall schedule when they compete at the Big 12 Match Play Tournament at The Clubs at Houston Oaks in Hockley, Texas, on Oct. 9-11.
Following the holiday break, Houston returns to action to open their spring season at the Southwestern Invitational at North Ranch Country Club in Westlake Village, Calif., on Jan. 29-31.
