Cougars to compete as team at Highlands Invitational in Illinois; Four individuals tee off at Papago Individual event
Updated (6:46 p.m., Sept. 17, 2023) – This story was updated to show a change in Houston's first-day playing partners. Houston will play in groups with student-athletes from Iowa and Virginia, beginning off No. 10 at 7:40 a.m., Monday, Sept. 18.
WESTCHESTER Ill. & PHOENIX, Ariz. – The University of Houston Men's Golf program continues its fall season when it tees off in a pair of tournaments beginning Monday morning.
As a team, Houston will compete at the Highlands Invitational at Chicago Highlands Club. In addition, four student-athletes will play as individuals at the Papago Individual Event at Papago Golf Club in Phoenix, Ariz.
At both tournaments, the Cougars will compete in 36 holes Monday with the Final Round teeing off Tuesday.

ABOUT the COUGARS
Under the leadership of Director of Golf Jonathan Dismuke, the Cougars will be represented by senior All-American Santiago De La Fuente, junior Wolfgang Glawe, sophomore Hudson Weibel, junior Jacob Borow and sophomore Ruben Lindsay.
Austyn Reily, Laurenz Schiergen, freshman Grant Doggett and junior Drew Murdock will compete at the Papago Individual Event.
De La Fuente was the Cougars' leading performer a year ago and at the season-opening Argent Financial Classic on Sept. 10-12. The Guadalajara, Mexico, native fired three straight rounds of par or better at Squire Creek Country Club last week to tie for second at 11-under 205.
A year ago, De La Fuente earned PING All-America Honorable Mention and was named the American Athletic Conference Player of the Year after posting a 70.71 scoring average with six Top-10 finishes, including The American Championships individual title.
His scoring average ranked as the second-best mark in Houston single-season history.
Glawe opened the Argent Financial Classic with a 69 and finished at 2-under 214 to tie for 16th. He joined De La Fuente on The American All-Conference Team.
A year ago, Reily was an All-Conference honoree after posting a 73.11 scoring average with five Top-20 showings. The Pottsboro, Texas, native chipped in an eagle in the first group in the first hole of the First Round at the 2023 American Championships to give the Cougars a lead they would never relinquish.
Reily and Murdock will make their season debuts at the Papago Individual Event while Doggett while compete in the first collegiate tournament of his career.
TEAM FIELDS
At the Highlands Invitational, the Cougars will compete against #25 Wake Forest, Iowa, Yale, Charleston, Michigan, Rutgers, #23 Duke, Furman, Penn State, Missouri, Indiana, Maryland and #13 Virginia.
The four Houston individuals will compete against student-athletes from Arizona, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, Tennessee, Colorado, North Carolina, Utah Tech, BYU and Texas.
PAIRINGS
For Monday's action at the Highlands Invitational, the Cougars will compete in groups with student-athletes from Virginia and Iowa.
Lindsay will start the day off No. 10 at 7:40 a.m., with Borow (7:50 a.m.), Weibel (8 a.m.), Glawe (8:10 a.m.) and De La Fuente (8:20 a.m.) following.

For Monday's Papago Indiviudal Event action, Schiergen begins the round off No, 1 at 8:54 a.m., (CDT) with Reily (9:03 a.m. CDT), Doggett (9:48 a.m. CDT) and Murdock (9:57 a.m., following CDT).

Houston enters this week's action after finishing fourth at the season-opening Argent Financial Classic at Squire Creek Country Club in Choudrant, La., on Sept. 10-12.

UP NEXT
Following the Highlands Invitational, Houston will face Sam Houston in a 36-hole match play event during the Robert Steele Cup at Golfcrest Country Club in Pearland, Texas, on Oct. 3. This is a recent addition to the Cougars' fall schedule.
From there, the Cougars close their fall schedule when they compete at the Big 12 Match Play Tournament at The Clubs at Houston Oaks in Hockley, Texas, on Oct. 9-11.
Following the holiday break, Houston returns to action to open their spring season at the Southwestern Invitational at North Ranch Country Club in Westlake Village, Calif., on Jan. 29-31.
