No. 13 Volleyball Starts Road Trip at Texas State Invitational

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The No. 13 University of Houston Volleyball team starts a nine-match, over month long road stretch with two matches at Texas State as part of the Texas State Invitational. The Cougars will battle North Texas at 4 p.m. Friday before a 3 p.m. Saturday battle with the host Bobcats.

Houston is coming off a 3-0 weekend at the Flo Hyman Collegiate Cup which helped propel it to its highest ranking in program history at No. 13. The Cougars defeated then-No. 22 USC as well as Southern Miss and McNeese to rise six spots from the preseason poll which had Houston slotted at No. 19. The Cougars are one of five teams from the Big 12 Conference to be ranked and was the third highest riser in the poll.

Junior Kellen Morin captured the University of Houston's first Big 12 Conference individual honors by being selected as the league's Defensive Player of the Week after tallying 19 blocks at the Flo Hyman Collegiate Cup, including a career-high nine against McNeese.

Houston entered the AVCA Poll last season for the first time since 1994 and tied its highest final ranking in program history at No. 17. The Cougars received their highest ranking in the poll ever after rising six spots to No. 13 in the first weekly poll of the season.
The Big 12 Conference ranked as the top volleyball conference in the country last year according to the NCAA's Conference RPI release. Already with five NCAA Tournament teams, the league added three additional as Houston, BYU and UCF officially joined the conference on July 1.
Houston went a perfect 14-0 at home inside the Fertitta Center last season, one of 18 teams to go undefeated and one of nine to win 14-or-more. The team's home win streak of 17 is the 7th longest active streak in the country.
The Cougars are 6-4 in their last 10 in first matches away from home (either road or neutral) in a season and hold a 21-21 record in these matches since women's volleyball was made an NCAA sport in 1981.
Houston set a season-ticket record for the 2023 season, posting a 100 percent increase in their distributed season tickets.
The Cougars opened the season with a weekend sweep against then-No. 22 USC, Southern Miss and McNeese.
