Seniors shoot 73 in Monday’s First Round to tie for 17th; Second Round tees off Tuesday morning
AUBURN, Ala. – University of Houston senior Austyn Reily and super senior Braxton Watkins each posted 73s to tie for 15th and lead the Cougars during the First Round of the NCAA Auburn Regional at Auburn University Club on Monday afternoon.
As a team, the Cougars finished with a score of 300 to stand in 10th overall.
Reily started his day off No. 1 with a bogey on the 7,591-yard, par-72 course but returned to even-par with his lone birdie of the day of the par-5 third hole. The Pottsboro, Texas, added another birdie on the par-4 14th hole on the way to his 73.
After making par on each of his first eight holes, Watkins rallied through two bogeys in a three-hole stretch at Nos. 9-11 to make two birdies in a three-hole swing on Nos. 13-15 to join Reily in the tie for 15th.
Sophomore Wolfgang Glawe was tied for 42nd with a 76 while sophomore Jacob Borow was tied for 55th at 78. Junior Santiago De La Fuente was tied for 61st at 79.
#48 Chattanooga held the first-day team lead with a score of 5-under 283. #24 Colorado State (285), 13th-ranked and host Auburn (292) #37 TCU (292), #1 Vanderbilt (294) and #25 Ohio State (294) completed the Top-six leaders.
Indiana (297), #36 Washington (297) and #12 Tennessee (297) rounded out the Top 10.
Colorado State's Christoph Bleier and Chattanooga's John Houk stood atop the individual leaderboard after each posted 68s. Brendan Valdes (Auburn), Jacob Skov Olesen (TCU) and Garrett Engle (Chattanooga) were tied for third at 70 while Gordon Sargent (Vanderbilt), Paul Conroy (Chattanooga), Maxwell Moldovan (Ohio State), Connor Jones (Colorado State) and Alex Goff (Kentucky) were tied for sixth at 71.
The NCAA Auburn Regional continues Tuesday morning with the schools playing 18 holes each day through Wednesday. The top five teams and top student-athlete (not on an advancing team) at each of the six NCAA Regional sites advance to the NCAA Championships to be played at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz., on May 26-31.
In addition to the Auburn University Club, NCAA Regionals are being played at Eagle Eye (Bath, Michigan); Bear's Best Las Vegas (Las Vegas); The Institute Golf Club (Morgan Hill, Calif.); Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club (Norman, Okla.) and The Cliffs at Keowee Falls (Salem, S.C.).

NCAA REGIONAL HISTORY
For the third straight season and the ninth time under Director of Golf Jonathan Dismuke, the Cougars will compete as a team in NCAA Regional play. This also will mark the 23rd NCAA Regional appearance in program history.
A year ago, the Cougars finished 12th in the NCAA Stockton Regional at The Reserve at Spanos Park.
