Senior tied for second at 5-under 139; Final Round tees off Tuesday morning
MONTGOMERY, Texas – University of Houston Men's Golf senior Nick Sutton fired a pair of sub-par rounds to lead the Cougars and tie for second at 5-under 139 following the first day of the Huntsville Toyota Walden Invitational on Monday evening.
After opening the tournament with a 70, the Matthews, N.C., native sank four birdies in the afternoon on the way to a 69 to stand one shot behind first-day leader Phicaksn Maichon of Texas A&M.
Sutton endured a bogey on his first hole of the day at No. 15 but quickly moved under par with an eagle on the par-5 16th hole and moved to 2-under with a birdie on No. 18.
After a double bogey on No. 2, Sutton added birdies on No. 3 and on No. 12 to finish the First Round with a 70.
The Tennessee Tech transfer started the Second Round with seven straight pars before a bogey on No. 4. Fortunately, that was the lone blemish on his scorecard in the afternoon as he drained four birdies in a 5-hole stretch on Nos. 6-10 with only a par at No. 7.
