
Annie Kim Finishes First Round at NCAA Regional

Senior begins Second Round on North Course at Vanderbilt Legends Club on Tuesday morning
FRANKLIN, Tenn. – University of Houston senior Annie Kim stood in a tie for 62nd following the First Round of the NCAA Franklin Regional at Vanderbilt Legends Club on Monday afternoon.
Making the Cougars' first NCAA Regional individual appearance in the program's history, Kim posted a score of 82 on the 6,450-yard North Course. Starting her day off No. 10, the Seoul native drained a birdie early on the 362-yard, par-4 11th hole but ran into trouble midway through her round.
No. 21 Duke and No. 9 Alabama were tied for the team lead at 1-under 287, while No. 35 Vanderbilt stood in third at 288. No. 15 Texas A&M was fourth at 289, while No. 4 Wake Forest stood in fifth at 292.
Alabama's Polly Mack held the individual lead after shooting 65 Monday. ETSU's Hollie Muse was in second with a 66, while Texas A&M's Jennie Park was in third at 69. Boston University's Flair Kuan and Wake Forest's Rachel Kuehn were tied for fourth at 70.
The Top-Four teams and Top-Two individuals not on an advancing team at each NCAA Regional advance to the NCAA Championships, set for May 20-25 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz.
While this is the first time Kim has competed in an NCAA Regional, it is her second postseason appearance. Kim and her Cougar teammates were scheduled to compete at the 2021 NCAA Baton Rouge Regional, but rain forced the cancellation of that event without a shot being played.
This marked the seventh season in which Houston is represented in the NCAA postseason, The Cougars competed as a team in six consecutive years from 2015-21 with the 2020 Regionals being canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

For Tuesday's Second Round, Kim will compete in a group with Payton Carter (Murray State) and Tara Bettle (UNCG), beginning off No. 10 at 8:55 a.m.

ABOUT ANNIE KIM
Kim earned her invitation to the NCAA Regionals as the Cougars' leading competitor throughout the 2021-22 season. The Seoul native led the team with a 73.47 scoring average and 11 rounds of par or better, including a team season-low 67 in the Second Round of the MountainView Collegiate on March 19.
She enjoyed five Top-25 finishes this year with a season-best fourth-place showing at the Blessings Collegiate Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark., on Oct. 4-6, 2021.
A two-time member of the American Athletic Conference All-Academic Team, Kim recently opened The American Championships with an even-par 72 and tied for 12th at 225 in her debut at the conference tournament.
She was named to the All-American Athletic Conference Team for the first time in her career earlier this week.
Kim is no stranger to Vanderbilt Legends Club. As a freshman during the 2018-19 season, she appeared in three tournaments for the Commodores before transferring to Houston.
She was one of 36 individual participants to be selected for NCAA Regional play at the six NCAA Regional sites in 2022.
