Sophomore surges into tie for 13th at 150 entering Final Round
WILMINGTON, N.C. – University of Houston sophomore Wolfgang Glawe fired a 1-under 71 on Saturday afternoon to lead the Cougars and move into a tie for 13th following the Second Round of the Williams Cup at Eagle Point Golf Club.
Competing in his first season with the Cougars after transferring from Kansas, Glawe endured a bogey on his first hole of the day at No. 1 but quickly moved into red numbers with back-to-back birdies on Nos. 2-3.
The St. Leon-Rot, Germany, native drained his final birdie of the day on the par-4 13th hole and finished the day with five straight pars to rise 12 places in the individual standings at 147.
Glawe was one of three Cougars to finish Saturday's play among the Top-20 leaders. Junior Santiago De La Fuente was tied for 16th at 149, while super senior Braxton Watkins was tied for 19th at 150.
As a team, the Cougars bettered their First-Round total by eight strokes on Saturday and moved a tie for fourth with No. 37 Louisville with a 36-hole score of 596 on the 7,364-yard, par-72 course.
Host and eighth-ranked North Carolina posted the low round for the second straight day and held the team lead at 1-under 575. UNCW stood in second at 589 with NC State in third at 590.
Indiana's Drew Salyers and Brandon Einstein of NC State stood atop the individual leaderboard at 2-under 142. North Carolina teammates Dylan Menante and David Ford were tied for third at 143 with UNCW's Patrick Sparks joining them as the only student-athletes to shoot par or better.
The tournament wraps up with the Final Round starting at 7 a.m. (CDT) Sunday.

For Sunday's Final Round, the Cougars will compete in groups with student-athletes from Louisville and Kent State, beginning off No. 1 at 7 a.m. (CDT).
Reily will start the day at 7 a.m. (CDT) with Wochner (7:10 a.m. CDT), Watkins (7:20 a.m. CDT), De La Fuente (7:30 a.m. CDT) and Glawe (7:40 a.m. CDT) following.
