CHOUDRANT, La. – University of Houston senior Alexander Frances fired his second straight sub-par round to move into a tie for fourth at 5-under 139 following the Second Round at the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate on Monday afternoon.
Starting his day off No. 1 on the 7,105-yard, par-72 layout at Squire Country Club, Frances overcame a bogey on his first hole and returned to even par with his first birdie of the day on the 528-yard, par-5 fifth hole.
The Stege, Denmark, native returned to red numbers for good with a birdie on No. 6 and added additional birdies No. 11 and No. 15. Despite a bogey on No. 17, Frances rebounded with his final birdie of the day on No. 18 to close with a 69 and move into a tie for fourth with LSU teammates Drew Doyle and Jack Wehman.
As a team, the Cougars posted a score of 291 and slipped into a tie for sixth with South Alabama at 575.
UTSA held the second-day lead at 562 to finish three shots ahead of host Louisiana Tech. LSU (566) and Southern Miss (567) completed the Top-Five while ULM (576), Lamar (578) and UT Arlington (578) rounded out the Top 10.
Louisiana Tech's Sam Murphy stood atop the individual leaderboard at 8-under 136, while Southern Miss' Hunter Atkins was in second at 137. Little Rock's Magnus Lomholt stood in third at 138.
Junior Austyn Reily and COVID senior Andrew Gibson joined Frances among the Top-20 leaders, trying for 18th at 143. COVID senior Laurence Crea was tied for 76th at 150, while redshirt freshman Jacob Borow was tied for 97th at 153. Playing as an individual, junior Marcus Wochner was tied for 68th at 149.
This is the second of four fall tournaments for the Cougars.

PAIRINGS
For Tuesday's Final Round, the Cougars will compete in groups with student-athletes from ULM, South Alabama and Southern Miss, beginning off No. 1 at 8:20 a.m.
Borow starts the Final Round at 8:20 a.m., with Crea (8:30 a.m.), Gibson (8:40 a.m.), Reily (8:50 a.m.) and Frances (9 a.m.) following. Wochner begins the final day for the Cougars off No. 10 at 7:30 a.m.

UP NEXT
Following the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate, the Cougars will tee off at the Blessings Collegiate Invitational on Oct. 4-6 at Blessings Golf Club in Fayetteville, Ark. The Cougars will join with their UH female counterparts at that event, which will air on GOLF Channel each day.
From there, the Cougars close out their fall schedule when they compete at The Williams Cup presented by Stitch Golf on Oct. 25-26 at Eagle Point Golf Club in Wilmington, N.C.
