BRYAN, Texas – University of Houston senior Alexander Frances posted a score of 218 to tie for 12th and lead the Cougars during the Final Round of the Aggie Invitational on Sunday afternoon.
As a team, Houston posted a three-day score of 899 to tie with North Texas for ninth.
Senior Luke Long posted a 2-under 70 for the Cougars' low round of the day, thanks to four birdies. The Fayetteville, Ark., native tied for 45th with a score of 226.
Senior Andrew Gibson tied for 39th with a score of 225, while senior Matt Cole tied for 65th at 232. Sophomore Austyn Reily tied for 70th at 234.
No. 1 Oklahoma and No. 12 Texas A&M tied after 54 holes at 866 with the Aggies winning on the first hole of a playoff. No. 5 Texas finished third at 868 with No. 25 Texas Tech (873), No. 36 Baylor (876), No. 30 Louisville (878), Nebraska (893) and Kansas (896) rounding out the Top-Eight leaders.
Texas A&M's Sam Bennett earned medalist honors at 6-under 210 to finish one shot ahead of Texas' Pierceson Coody. Baylor's Luke Dossey finished third at 214, while Northern Illinois's Jordan Less finished fourth at 215.
UP NEXT
Following the Aggie Invitational, the Cougars will play host to the Lone Star Invitational, beginning Monday morning at Golf Club of Houston in a recent addition to Houston's schedule.
The two-day, 54-hole tournament concludes with the Final Round on Tuesday.
From there, Houston takes its first step in the postseason when it tees off at the American Athletic Conference Championships at Southern Hills Plantation in Brooksville, Fla., on April 23-25.
The winner of the league's annual postseason event receives the automatic bid to NCAA Regional play.
NCAA Regional play will be held May 17-19 at six sites across the nation, including Championship Course – New Mexico Golf Club (Albuquerque, N.M.), Golf Club of Tennessee (Nashville, Tenn.), Karsten Creek Golf Club (Stillwater, Okla.), Tumble Creek Golf Club (Cle Elum, Wash.), Sagamore Golf Club (Noblesville, Ind.) and Golden Eagle Golf & Country Club (Tallahassee, Fla.).
