- When Houston swept its season series against Memphis, the Cougars clinched The American West Division crown, marking the program's first conference title of any kind since joining the league.
- Houston began conference play with one of the most memorable starts in program history, having won its first eight games in league action for the first time since the turn of the century. It is the second time in as many years the Cougars have won seven straight contests to start conference.
- The Cougars' first-place standing is the second year in a row they have finished in a higher spot than predicated in the preseason poll. Houston was picked third in this year's preseason poll.
- One of the reasons for Houston's success this season has been its strong starts, as the Cougars have held a 2-0 match lead in 12 contests this spring. Houston is 10-2 this season when leading after two sets and 17-4 overall in the David Rehr era on such occasions.
