SPRING, Texas – University of Houston Men's Golfers Luke Long and Trip Morris were tied for 12^th after the first day of the Colin Montgomerie HBU Invitational with scores of 146.

Senior Laurence Crea joined Long and Morris competing as individuals on the 7,015-yard, par-72 course at Augusta Pines Golf Club and was tied for 20^th at 148.

Morris overcame a 75 in the First Round to post the team's low round of the day with a 71 in the afternoon session, thanks to six birdies.

The Studio City, Calif., native began his day with a bogey on No. 16 but moved into red numbers with two birdies on his next four holes.

After two bogeys in a 3-hole stretch on Nos. 3-5, Morris returned under par with birdies on No. 6 and No. 8 and rallied from a bogey on No. 9 with additional birdies on No. 11 and No. 14.

Crea rebounded from a 71 in the morning to shoot a 71 of his own. The Cypress, Texas, native started his day with a birdie but endured back-to-back bogeys in on the next two holes.

Fortunately, he rebounded with back-to-back birdies on Nos. 2-3 and added another birdie on the par-5 sixth hole. After a bogey on No. 9, Crea drained his final birdie of the day on the par-13^th hole to join Long and Morris among the Top-20 leaders.

Long fired an even-par 72 in the Second Round for his low score of the day.

The tournament concludes with the Final Round, beginning with an 8:15 a.m., shotgun start Tuesday.

PAIRINGS
Crea and Morris will compete in the first group off No. 18 at 8:15 a.m., Tuesday, while Long will be in the second group off that hole.

UP NEXT
Following the Colin Montgomerie HBU Invitational, Houston will play host to one of the nation's premier collegiate tournaments in the Valspar Collegiate Invitational. This elite event will be held March 15-16 at Floridian National Golf Club in Palm City, Fla.

From there, the Cougars will close the month of March at the N.I.T, hosted by Arizona at Omni Tucson National Resort in Tucson, Ariz., on March 20-21.

Fans should note that the N.I.T. was a recent addition to the Cougars' schedule.
