Houston Sweeps Wichita State in Finale

Cougars conclude regular season with 9-1 conference record
WICHITA, Kan. – The University of Houston Volleyball wrapped up its regular season by sweeping Wichita State in straight sets (25-21, 25-23, 25-18) on Saturday afternoon.

With the win, the Cougars conclude the regular season 13-5, with a 9-1 in American Athletic Conference action. The Cougars have also won five of their last six matches with the Shockers (9-8. 4-6 AAC).

Houston continued its season-long trend of strong starts, holding a 2-0 match lead for the 13th time this season. The Cougars are now 10-2 on the year when leading after two sets. Houston's .318 attack percentage in the first sets against Wichita State, marks the fifth time this season the Cougars have surpassed the .300 plateau in the opening frame.

The Cougars also improved to 10-0 on the year when recording an attack percentage of .200 or higher. They finished Saturday with a .218 mark.

Junior Kortlyn Henderson paced the Cougars with a match-high .375 clip, which resulted in her leading all players with 14 kills on the afternoon. She was followed by junior Isabel Theut as those with double-digit kills against the Shockers.

Defensively, Houston held Wichita State to a .134 clip, thanks in large part to junior Torie Frederick, who posted a match-high 19 digs. She was one of one of three Cougars to in double-digit digs, with sophomore Abbie Jackson (13) and senior Abby Irvine (11) following suite.

Freshman Annie Cooke handed out 37 assists, the most by a Cougar in a three-set match this season.

Houston sets its eyes on the American Athletic Conference Championship for the second year in a row, as the Cougars travel to Cincinnati, Ohio, to face Temple in the opening round April 2.
