
Slaughter Lead Houston at MountainView Collegiate

Freshman fires third straight sub-par round to finish second and lead three Cougars among Top 5
SADDLEBROOKE, Ariz. – University of Houston Women's Golf stars Zoe Slaughter, Karen Fredgaard and Anne Normann each finished among the Top-5 leaders to lead the Cougars at the MountainView Collegiate at The Preserve Golf Club on Sunday afternoon.
Slaughter posted a score of 1-under 71 on the 6,350-yard, par-72 course to finish second at 208. Fredgaard earned her fourth straight Top-10 individual finish of the season, shooting 70 in Sunday's Final Round and finishing third at 209, while freshman Anne Normann fired the team's low round of the day with a 68 and tied for fourth at 211.
As a team, the Cougars recorded a score of 6-under 282 in the Final Round and finished third with a 54-hole total of 849.
No. 8 Oklahoma State won the team title with a score of 844 to finish two strokes ahead of No. 31 Texas. No. 36 Iowa State (856), No. 9 Baylor (874), No. 30 North Texas (879, UNLV (885), San Jose State (886) No. 50 Kansas State (893) and No. 45 Tulsa (898) rounded out the Top-10 leaders.
Starting off No 10, Slaughter overcame a bogey at No. 11 and returned to even par for the day with a birdie on the par-3 14th hole. After four straight pars and a bogey at No. 1, the Houston native sank four more pars with two birdies in a 3-hole stretch on Nos. 6-8.
Fredgaard overcame a bogey on No. 11 and moved to red numbers with a birdie on No. 13 and another one on No. 15. Following a bogey on No. 16 and four straight pars, the Asserbo, Denmark, native made birdie on No. 3 and quickly rebounding from a bogey on No. 6 with back-to-back birdies on Nos. 8-9 to close her tournament.
Normann began her day with seven straight pars and made birdie on No. 17 before faltering with a bogey on No. 18 to cap her first nine. Fortunately, that would be the only bogey on her scorecard.
The Rungsted, Denmark, native alternated birdies with pars through the first five holes of her second nine and drained her final birdie of the tournament on the 523-yard, par-5 eighth hole.
Senior Ariana Saenz tied for 31st at 222, while junior Maria Jose Martinez finished 45th at 226.
Oklahoma State's Maja Stark earned medalist honors at 11-under 205. Normann tied with San Jose State's Kajsa Arwefjall for fourth.

Following the MountainView Collegiate, Houston returns to action when it tees off in the Bruzzy Challenge at Lantana Golf Club in Dallas on March 28-29.
From there, Fredgaard will compete as an individual at the Augusta National Women's Amateur on April 1-4 in Augusta, Ga. She earned the invitation as one of the nation's premier amateur players.
