
Houston Swimming & Diving to Host Phill Hansel Invitational

Cougars to honor influential coach with fifth annual fall meet
HOUSTON – Houston Swimming & Diving will host the annual Phill Hansel Invitational Thursday through Saturday at the CRWC Natatorium. The Cougars will host eight teams for the three-day meet which will include both swimming and diving preliminary and final events.
From 1975-1996, Hansel was the most influential man for the Houston's swimming & diving team. He guided the Cougars to more than 70 dual-meet victories and 10 Top-20 finishes at the AIAW and NCAA Championships.
In 1996, Hansel finished the season with over 39 years of coaching experience and was recognized as one of the most successful collegiate swim coaches in the nation. He was inducted into the Hall of Honor in 2008 with an annual swimming & diving meet created in his name beginning in 2016.
Houston has seen much success at the Phill Hansel Invitational coming out on top with first place finishes in the last four invitationals.
Fans can attend the three-day meet free of charge with events beginning at 10 a.m. If unable to attend the invitational, fans can also follow live stats here.
In addition to the weekend's events, Houston Swimming & Diving will also be collecting donations at the CRWC Natatorium for Star of Hope. Suggested donations include, but are not limited to, stationary, jackets and coats, and toiletries.
The Phill Hansel Invitational will conclude the swimming & diving fall schedule.
