FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The University of Houston Men's Golf program lowered its team score for the second straight day, finishing 10th at the Blessings Collegiate Invitational on Wednesday.
Competing against an elite field, the Cougars finished the three-day, 54-hole tournament with a score of 896 after shooting 294 in the Final Round on the 7,770-yard, par-72 course at Blessings Golf Club.
Host Arkansas captured the team championship with a score of 846 to finish 13 shots in front of Arizona. Mississippi (861), Tennessee (863), North Carolina (863) and Illinois (863) completed the Top Six leaders.
Senior Andrew Gibson fired a 71 Wednesday to lead the Cougars and tied for 27th at 222. Starting off No. 10, Gibson sank his first birdie of the day on the 485-yard, par-4 16th hole but stood at +1 through 13 holes.
The Perthshire, Scotland, native moved into red numbers with back-to-back birdies on Nos. 5-6 and recovered from a bogey on No. 7 to make birdie on his final hole of the tournament.
Senior Braxton Watkins tied for 38th at 225, while senior Alexander Frances tied for 42nd at 226. Junior Austyn Reily tied for 45th at 228, and redshirt freshman Jacob Borow finished 50th at 230.
Arkansas' Luke Long earned medalist honors with a score of 11-under 205. Teammate Mateo Fernandez De Oliveira and Arizona's Chase Sienkiewicz tied for second at 208, while Tennessee's Spencer Cross and Illinois' Piercen Hunt tied for fourth at 209.

Following the Blessings Collegiate Invitational, the Cougars close out their fall schedule when they compete at The Williams Cup presented by Stitch Golf on Oct. 25-26 at Eagle Point Golf Club in Wilmington, N.C.
From there, Houston will take its winter break before opening the spring season at the Border Olympics on Feb. 14-15 at Laredo Country Club in Laredo, Texas.
